Ahh!
Okay. I always get acrylics because I tend to bite my nails,
but lately my fingers have been hurting and I have been getting green goop on the inside of my finger! My sister said it was skin fungus and that the acrylics didn't do anything thing but I think it was from the acrylics! So I took them off and it hasn't happened to me since! and I am so relieved but I really want some acrylics again. My sister said it would be fine but I'm scared! She's the one who does my nails, she's a nail tech! Has this situation ever happened to anyone? I need some advice! What should I do? Thanks!~*Heather*~

Yeah, it happens all the time, when the supplies are not clean like the ones they do your nails with, you have a chance of getting a infection.

Actually, your sister is more than likely wrong! What you just described is nail fungus that is normally between the natural nail plate and the acrylic nail, and its generally caused by moisture getting trapped between those layers. Since the moisture is given time to incubate between nail appointments, its the perfect condition for the fungus to grow! Pretty yucky, huh?

Now, your case might be different, only a doctor can really determine what's wrong. I know about this kind of stuff because my mom made me read a huge report on deadly pedicures that she found in the news. I was really curious about manicures too, so I did a little research and this information is just some of the stuff that I dug up.

Do you do the dishes without wearing rubber g :)s? When the acrylic nail is exposed to too much water, it causes the acrylic to lift slightly from the nail plate where all that gunk can seep in. If you get your nails done again, I HIGHLY recommend that you protect your nails from uneccessary water exposure.

My last two cents is to ask your salon whether they use MMA (Methyl Methacrylate) or EMA (Ethyl Methacrylate). Technically they REALLY shouldn't be using MMA, it can cause permanent damage to your nails. It wasn't even specifically intended for that! It originally was used in dental surgery. EMA is much safer and was specifically engineered to be safe on nails.

I hope that you haven't died of old age reading my longwinded response, and that it has provided some sort of help. Good luck!

that green gop is caused by getting your nails done it hapens when you get your nails done too often i would advise that since you went with out acrylics for a while that you can put them back on but just make sure every so often just go 2 weeks with out them it will help. the goop is a combination of bacteria, dirt, and nail glue becuase sometimes glue residue geets under the nail but not to worry
