I was wondering do you think people should have the right to do their own hair? Because my mom doesn't let me do my hair at all as in washing it and styling it I have to ask her first before I can do anything with it and if she says no I'm not allowed really to mess with it and she makes me go to a beauty shop, it may seem relaxing but to me in my opinion its doesn't me to relax at all it makes me stressed out to have to go to my appointments. She also said that she owns me and I'm her property. Today I asked her if I could wash my own hair and gave her reasons she said yes and the she said I can take my school picture with my hair washed and she was mocking me because she knows that my hair can get frizzy after washing it. After I asked her what she meant by that and she said just washing it and I told her I wanted to straighten and style it and she said I would burn my hair out. How do you feel about this and what would you do if your parents didn't let you wash your own hair? Sorry about it being so long and if it sounds like ranting and nagging I'm not trying to make it that way.:S

Hey Firekit, I've seen your profile and you're 19 years old, correct? If your parents think they own you, they have their own issues to deal with. My parents don't even let me shave my head. I tried it once when my dad was gone at the pool but obviously he's hidden the clippers. I'm stuck with spiking my hair every morning so I can look like another person instead of being myself. All they're worried about is me looking like this cop that they've seen. You know what, when I turn 18 in about 4 1/2 years, or better yet when I'm able to drive, I'll go out and get me a pair of clippers and quit being this person they want me to be. Hell, I'm just a useless person who is owned by going through back to back bullying from my parents, brother, grandparents, and teachers. And all for shaving my head, nobody thinks it is excpet my friends.
And just so I could look like that person...I dyed my hair a strawberry blonde the other night. I feel that if I have to make my parents happy before I can make myself happy. Worse enough, they and my teachers make every decision for me from what I do with my friends to my personality to my hair style. I should be thankful I'm not forced to be some kind of girly girl. What's even more depressing, is I'm going anorexic some time this week so I can lose some more weight so I can look like this person my parents want me to be.
My next question is: Have you ever been in a situation where you don't feel accepted by your parents or have had everybody around you say they're going to win over you? To tell you the truth, I feel as if I am in the biggest trench until the day I go out on my own legally. Wouldn't it be to see yourself emancipated at 16 or 17 years old like some kids are? Then, you can make your own decisions, buy your own house, get your own job, pay your own bills, and get a move on with your life. Man, I'm pretty much forced to spike my hair every morning all for the sake of being in my parent's responsibility.
One more thing, if you are considered property, you have no constitutional rights whatsoever. If you are a citizen of the USA, then you have rights. There's such thing as child custody but property is more such as slavery where you are claimed property which is illegal. My parents have NEVER said I was property. If your parents say you are property, then they have some serious issues and have no idea what they are talking about.
